The 2010 Northern Lights Barrel Futurity & Derby is OPEN to anyone with horses (of any breed) that qualify to compete (see rules here). Futurity horses are 5 years old and under with no competition prior to December 1, 2009. Derby horses are 7 years old and under.

We are happy to announce our Futurity & Derby are approved by the WPRA.

Northern Lights Futurity & Derby FORMAT
Fastest 10 times of two go-round runs advance to short go. Champions determined by combining Fastest Go Round Time with Short Go Time for lowest cumulative total.
Long go's are 2D format as follows (changed for 2010):

• 1 second split in Futurity
• 0.5 second split in Derby

Stallion Incentive Rider Award
A cash award of $300 to high point rider of nominated stallion offspring in both Futurity & Derby.

Amateur Side Pot Fee: $20.
Lifetime futurity/derby earnings less than $500 prior to our event. Entry
Highest placing Amateur in Futurity & Derby will receive a horse blanket.

Cowgirl Tuff Northern Regional Tour 2D Side Pot
The 2010 Cowgirl Tuff Northern Regional Tour Finals will be held . Contestants choosing to run for year end awards and money must enter the side pot in each go round. This side pot is open to any contestant at the Northern Lights Barrel Futurity & Derby.

North American Barrel Racing Challenge
**Please note, the NABRC Finals has been moved to a new date and location. An NABRC Qualifier race will be held in conjunction with the Interval Timing Jackpot race on Saturday night. (see schedule)

The Northern Lights Barrel Futurity and Derby Committee is proud to present the only barrel racing event of it's kind in Manitoba, Canada for young, upcoming barrel horses. We have seen excellent participation by talented barrel horses and riders from western Canada, and northwestern USA make the Northern Lights barrel races an exciting equine event.
